Bournemouth university (BU) graduate Becca Pountney won Best British Business Podcast award at the 2025 British Podcast Awards ceremony held at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday 2 October.
Becca’s podcast ‘Wedding Pros Who are Ready to Grow’ took home the win ahead of other nominees including The Economist and The Times.
After graduating from BU in 2009 in Television Production, Becca went on to work for the BBC, Endemol and Global Radio before setting up her own business in 2016. Becca now works as a business consultant helping people to grow their wedding businesses.
The ‘Wedding Pros Who are Ready to Grow’ series of podcasts gives tips, practical advice and interviews with industry experts on how to set up a business and be successful in a competitive wedding market.
Speaking about the award, Becca said: “This award shows the power of the independent podcast and that a woman in her home office can create content just as well as the big publishers. I was proud to represent the Wedding Industry and to champion small business owners everywhere. Many of the skills I learnt at university have enabled me to have the successful career and knowledge of production that has helped lead to this win.”
Isabel Grey Forrest, Programme Leader at BU for the BA (Hons) Film & TV Production course said: “We are absolutely delighted to celebrate our graduate’s outstanding achievement. Today’s media landscape has evolved dramatically alongside technological advances, and we’re committed to equipping our students with the versatility to thrive across diverse platforms and industries. Becca’s success brilliantly demonstrates that excellence isn’t confined to a single discipline – rather, it’s about transferring the critical skills, adaptive thinking, and resilient mindset developed during university into whatever path you choose. Her determination and ability to apply her learning in innovative ways truly exemplifies what we hope for all our graduates. We’re incredibly proud of her accomplishments and excited to see where her journey takes her next.”
