As part of Autism Acceptance Month, we’re hosting a series of relaxed, welcoming coffee mornings designed specifically for Autistic students. Whether you’re formally diagnosed, self-identifying, or exploring whether you may be autistic, these sessions offer a calm space to connect, unwind, and feel supported.
We’re running events on both Talbot and Lansdowne Campus in April, making it easier for you to join us wherever feels most comfortable.
Where and when?
Lansdowne Campus events, BG-216, Weston Library, Bournemouth Gateway Building:
- Wednesday 22 April, 10am to 11am.
Please book your place online.
Talbot Campus events, F104, Fusion Building
- Thursday 23 April, 10am to 11am
- Thursday 30 April, 10am to 11am.
Please book your place online.
What are the coffee mornings about?
These sessions are intended to create a low‑pressure, sensory-considerate environment where Autistic students can:
- Meet and chat with Autistic BU staff members
- Socialise with peers in a relaxed, understanding setting
- Enjoy a drink, play games, or simply sit quietly
- Speak with ALS (Additional Learning Support) staff about university life, academic concerns, or support options.
There’s no expectation to talk, stay for the full hour, or take part in activities—just come as you are.
Students from previous years have shared how valuable it is to spend time with staff who share lived experience of autism and understand its strengths, challenges, and diversity. These relaxed meetups can help:
- Reduce feelings of isolation
- Build supportive peer connections
- Make university life feel a little easier
- Provide a safe space to ask questions or share concerns
- Encourage self-advocacy and confidence.
Whether you're looking for community or simply a quiet, friendly place to start your day, you’re very welcome.
If you’d like to know more about the events or have any accessibility requests, please contact Abi Wheeler.
