A team of BU's MSc Organisational Project Management students has reached the final of the APM Project Management Challenge and will compete for the national title on 5 May in Southampton.
Selected as one of only six teams from the Wessex region, the group stood out for applying project management theory to a live sustainability challenge through their initiative, Project Mosquito Call.
Real-world project delivery
Led by Project Manager Milena Przytula, the team developed a community-focused project designed to encourage small, practical actions towards sustainability. Milena Przytula shares:
This competition started in October 2025. We worked intensively to develop our idea and involved the community from the beginning. Sustainability is not easy to achieve, so we designed a project where each person can take small steps towards a better future.
We are proud of the lasting partnerships we built, which have already led to new initiatives. Because of the trees we planted, the idea will live on for much longer. That is something we are very proud of.”
The project delivered measurable outcomes, including planting 10 trees in the Amazon rainforest, and producing educational materials for primary schools. Strong partnerships were formed with the Nimsdai Foundation, Morebus and Saving the Amazon.
Programme Leader Dr Arkadiusz Tomczyk said: “This is an excellent example of students applying project management methodologies in a real-world context. Their work shows strong planning, stakeholder engagement and a clear focus on sustainable outcomes.”
