This week, we will be celebrating our first ever ‘Bean Week’ on campus from Monday 9 to 13 February.
Why should you eat more beans?
Beans are nutritional powerhouses. They are packed with fibre, healthy plant-based protein, vitamins and minerals, playing and important role in supporting good health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
- They have a much lower environmental footprint than most animal proteins, requiring less water, land, and producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
- They are very affordable, accessible, versatile, and delicious!
Why Bean Week?
Despite the clear benefits of bean consumption, research shows that most people do not eat as many beans as they should. While some people may be reluctant to eat beans due to fear of bloating, not getting enough protein, and the perception that beans lack flavour, the Bean Week aims to bust these myths and showcase to our students and staff how delicious bean dishes can be.
Throughout the week, a variety of exciting bean-based dishes will be available in our catering outlets as part of the menu each day. You will also find fun facts about the benefits of beans and tips on how to incorporate beans into your daily diet on the @bournemouthunifood Instagram page.
