Dr Louise Burgess is a Lecturer in the Department of Rehabilitation and Sport Sciences at Bournemouth University. She teaches on the BSc Sport and Exercise Science and MSc Strength and Conditioning courses, including units in Physiology, Neuromuscular Adaptation, Psychology, Research Methods and Dissertation.

Louise started her research journey at the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Bournemouth University, where she was involved in delivering world-leading research in arthritis and associated diseases, treatments, and technologies. She has co-authored 28 published research papers, 2 book chapters and 13 conference papers, and has collaborated with several notable industry partners, including University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, BH Live Active, and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Her research interests now include injury risk in female athletes and the long term impact of playing collision sports.

In 2023, Louise completed a PhD entitled: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation to improve muscle weakness in hip osteoarthritis: a feasibility study, and has recently been awarded a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy.
