This project aspires to establish a sustainable digital education model in Vietnam through international partnerships, aiming to enhance learning outcomes and digital skills development.
The project has examined the readiness for digital transformation in Vietnam's higher education, to evaluate gaps in infrastructure, resources, and digital literacy followed by actionable recommendations, such as improving connectivity, policy support, and inclusivity - positioning Vietnam's institutions for global competitiveness.
This collaborative, multi-level approach is intended to serve as a model for other countries undergoing similar transitions in educational digitalisation.

Research aims
The project will span two years, finishing in mid 2025. During this time, we have developed and continuously refined the tool, held collaborative events, and evaluated the impact of our work on digital transformation progress across Vietnamese universities.
Our team is conducting a scoping review publication to identify and compare best practices in digital transformation within the educational sector. This research will help tailor the tool and strategies specifically for Vietnamese HEIs, ensuring they align with global standards while meeting local needs.
The primary goal is to empower Vietnamese universities to effectively integrate digital practices that enhance learning, teaching, and administration. By doing so, the project aims to create a more robust and inclusive educational environment that is adaptable to global digital trends and competitive in the modern landscape.
Additionally, this project is expected to generate a framework and set of best practices that Vietnamese universities can adopt to improve their digital maturity, ensuring that they are well-equipped for future educational demands.
Impact and wider use
The project impact is expected to be multi-faceted, affecting students, faculty, and university administration alike. For students, the integration of digital tools and methodologies means better access to resources, more engaging learning experiences, and improved digital literacy—a crucial skill in today’s workforce.
Faculty members and administrators will benefit from streamlined processes, improved data management, and enhanced communication tools, allowing them to focus more on teaching and student engagement.
Benefits for key stakeholders include:
- Students: The digital tools will provide a more engaging and personalised learning experience, helping students become better prepared for digital-era careers.
- Faculty: Academics and researchers will gain access to innovative teaching tools and resources, making it easier to deliver high-quality education and conduct research.
- University Administration: Enhanced digital processes will allow for better data tracking and management, improving decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Broader Education Sector: The outcomes and findings from this project could serve as a model for other universities in Vietnam and even across Southeast Asia, fostering a regional transformation in higher education.
This project, supported by the British Council and guided by frameworks like the JISC model from the UK, represents a critical step forward for Vietnamese HEIs in creating a digitally advanced, globally competitive educational system.
A dissemination event at Bournemouth University on January 13-14, 2025 will introduce our project to a wider audience, enabling participants to explore insights and connect with educational leaders from both the UK and Vietnam. Our aim is to foster a collaborative vision for sustainable and inclusive education across borders.
Additional events in Vietnam will follow, in partnership with other universities and the British Council, to further introduce our digital transformation tool and support progress within Vietnamese higher education institutions (HEIs).
