We are committed to supporting Open Access research and strive to make our research data as accessible as possible. By having the research of our academics and students online for everyone to access, this enables the impacts of our research to reach global communities and societies almost instantly. We pride ourselves on research that makes a real difference to the world around us.
Discover our Open Access research
Explore our research repository, Bournemouth University Research Online (BURO) , home to thousands of Open Access research outputs such as journal articles, book chapters and conference papers produced by BU staff and students, as well as our collection of PhD theses. BURO is linked to our research data repository, BORDaR.
Open Access for BU Researchers
Here at BU, we provide support for BU researchers to make their research Open Access through two routes; the 'Gold' route and the 'Green' route.
The Gold route requires authors to pay the publisher to publish outputs open access directly. This route has been supported by BU since 2011 by our institutional Open Access Publication Fund.
The Green route requires authors to deposit the accepted manuscript into an Open Access Repository. This route has been supported by BU since 2008 by BURO.
The BU Open Access Publication Fund
The BU Open Access Publication Fund is available to any BU researcher, academic or student, who is ready to submit a peer-reviewed and accepted article for publication. This is a centralised fund which was launched in 2011 in response to and in support of various developments in research communication and publication trends.
Visit the BU Research blog for further information on the Open Access Fund and the criteria required to apply.
