Theo Roe’s work pursues a hypothesis that artistic process can release possibilities of verity for use by the practical world. In semiotic terms, if words had the job of representing concepts fixed and inert, one would be able to find exact equivalence for words between the different languages of our world. This is not the case. Truth (unlike fact) is a living moving thing. Roe's research interest is in design that has ‘Brio’ (that is design that is alive with some aspect of truth, verity or art). All design has a physiognomy, an outward face. If inwardly design is insincere and its outward face bears witness to that. What value does it have in a community of scarce resources?
