Induction programme for new postgraduate researchers

Beginning a postgraduate research degree is both exciting and challenging, particularly if you are returning to university from a professional career. We want you to settle into your research quickly and enjoy your time at BU, which is why we run an induction programme for all new postgraduate researchers.

We run two induction programmes each year - one in September and one in January - to cover the main entry points for postgraduate researchers. These take one and a half days and are designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the research degree programme, as well as making you aware of all of the support and services available to you.

We also run a shorter induction programme at the beginning of the summer for postgraduate researchers who are joining us at this entry point.

If you’re not able to attend our induction event, such as if you’re located too far from campus or are beginning your research at a time that doesn’t coincide with one of the events, we will make sure you receive all the information you need about the university and your faculty.

We’ll notify you of the dates of the most appropriate event for you to attend once you’ve been accepted for a postgraduate research degree.
