Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University, was joined by 2015 BU graduate Tom Parratt, to launch the Bournemouth University Annual Review, which showcases the very best of the University from a year in which BU entered the world’s top 500 universities for the first time.
Tom was one of the BU students who worked on a special Election night project in the Faculty of Media and Communication which features in the BU Annual Review as one of the highlights of the 2015 academic year. The project provided through the night coverage of General Election 2015, with student-focussed live coverage of the constituency results as they happened, and this week the BU students and staff involved achieved national recognition in winning the British Journalism Training Council Website of the Year Awards at the prestigious annual awards ceremony at ITN in London.

Tom is also a strong example of the high employability of BU’s students and the economic benefit BU graduates bring to the Dorset economy, as he has chosen to start his career in the growing digital sector at a local business, Mambo Media in Ashley Cross, Poole, after completing his Television Production degree in 2015. The employability of BU graduates has risen in 2015, with the latest national figures showing that 93.3% of BU graduates were in work or further study six months after graduating. The figure, up 1.7% from 91.6% last year, reinforces the University’s commitment to providing highly employable graduates.
Commenting on the launch of the Annual Review Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University, said, “It has been an exciting year at BU, with major new investments like our new Student Centre and the Bournemouth University International College opening, alongside powerful research and the success of our graduates, with our high employability figures showing that we are providing the kind of graduates who are immediately employable in their fields.
“Through our strategic investments, in people and new facilities, our international impact continues to grow, as we develop our academic strength and our global reach. I was delighted when this progress was recognised with BU entering the world’s top 500 universities for the first time in the 2015 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
“I believe our Annual Review tells the story of how the University is fulfilling our vision of creating the most stimulating, challenging, and rewarding university experience in a world-class learning community by sharing our unique fusion of excellent education, research and professional practice and inspiring our students, graduates and staff to enrich the world.”
