We're pleased to confirm that the work to improve and expand our popular laptop loan service – where students can borrow MacBook Airs and use them anywhere on campus for up to 4 hours – is now complete and an additional 60 laptops are now available available across both campuses.
This means that as of Wednesday 30 May you can borrow any of 72 laptops in the following locations:
- The Student Centre: 24 laptops
- Sir Michael Cobham Library, Talbot Campus: 36 laptops
- Bournemouth House Library, Lansdowne Campus: 12 laptops.
As part of this work to make the expanded service live, there will be no access to the service based in the Student Centre between 8.30am and 9.30am on Wednesday 30 May - no loans will be able to be issued or returned during this time.
About the service
The laptops have several applications installed on them including Microsoft Office and Skype. They can be borrowed for up to 4 hours and can be taken anywhere on either campus. They will have been charged before you borrow them, so you don’t need to find a charging point or plug socket – you can simply grab a comfortable spot in any building and log on to the BU-Student wireless network with your usual BU login details.
You will need to quickly register for the service before you can borrow laptop for the first time. To do that, you’ll need your student card and to follow the simple instructions on the terminal screen at each of the locations above. Once you’ve authenticated and agreed to the terms and conditions, you simply need to scan your student card on the reader of an available locker to open the door and take the laptop.
When you return the laptop to the locker, please remember to plug it in to the power adapter so it will charge for the next user, and to complete your loan.
If you have any questions regarding this scheme, please contact the IT Service Desk on 01202 965515 (option 1) or raise a ticket or chat online.
