Bournemouth University was awarded first place in the category of Mental Health and Wellbeing Support at the 2025 Whatuni Student Choice Awards.
The Award is judged by a panel of students from around the country who are passionate about mental health and wellbeing at universities. The win recognises our ongoing commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive and health-focused environment for our students and the immense impact of The University Retreat on Talbot Campus, run in collaboration with Bournemouth Churches Housing Association (BCHA).
You can find out more about the judging panel process and what the judges had to say in the Whatuni video.
Kerry Ann-Randle, Interim Head of Student Services at Bournemouth University said, “This award is an amazing achievement for BU and validates the work we do to ensure the support that we provide is accessible to all students in their time of need. Ongoing feedback informs what support we offer and how. We’re grateful for all those who have submitted reviews and shared feedback.”
The Whatuni Awards also include regional categories which are based on reviews by current students, with BU placing as regional winners for the Students’ Union and third for Facilities and Postgraduate categories.
Andy Squire, CEO at the Students’ Union (SUBU) and SUBU President, Esther Isaiah, are delighted to see this recognition. They said: “We’re incredibly proud to be named Best Students’ Union in the South West. This award is a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of our entire team, who are all deeply committed to improving the lives of students at Bournemouth University.
“What makes this recognition even more special is that it has come directly from student feedback. We are so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts on SUBU.”
Whatuni supports student decision making as a comparison site for universities, with reviews and contributions from current students.
