Following a competitive first round in April, nine BU postgraduate researchers presented their research at the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Final on 17 June for the chance to represent BU at a national level.
The internationally recognised 3MT® competition challenges postgraduate researchers to present a three-minute “elevator-pitch” on their research. Participants must communicate the originality and significance of their research in a clear, engaging way to a judging panel and live audience.
Well done to all our finalists – presenting your research in just three minutes is no small feat – and congratulations to our award winners:
- 1st Place: Emily Whitehead – School of Psychology, MST
- 2nd Place: Ryan Krishnamohan – School of Computing and Engineering, MST
- 3rd Place: Abbey Woolgar – The Media School, MST
- People's Choice Award: Tariq Alshihky – Business School, Faculty of Business and Law.
You can view recordings of the winning presentations on the BU YouTube channel.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, helping to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that celebrated research at BU.
Our thanks also go to our judges, Dan Jackson (Faculty of Media, Science & Technology), Les Gelling (Faculty of Health, Environment & Medical Science) and Samuel Walker (Faculty of Business & Law), for their time in deliberating and selecting winners, to the faculty panels who provided constructive feedback during the first round of the competition, and to keynote speaker Elvira Bolat, who provided an insightful talk about ‘Becoming the Research You Believe In’.
We have submitted the winning presentation to be considered for the shortlist in the national round of the 3MT® competition. We wish Emily Whitehead success in her submission.
