Sexual Violence Awareness Week is a national annual event takes place from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 February. It aims to raise awareness about the issues of sexual abuse and sexual violence, provide support to survivors, and encourage a broader dialogue on preventing these forms of harm.
Join our events on Tuesday 3 and Thursday 5 February
As part of the week, BU has invited a range of external agencies, who will be available to share information about their services, answer questions, and engage with students and staff in a supportive and informal environment.
The events will include interactive activities, opportunities for conversation, and practical information about staying safe and seeking support. Free treats — including pizza — will also available. Please drop-in on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday 3 February, 11am to 2pm, Poole House Atrium, Talbot Campus
- Thursday 5 February, 11am to 2pm, ground floor of Bournemouth Gateway Building, Lansdowne Campus.
The below services will be on hand:
- STARS
- The Shores (Sexual Assault Referral Centre)
- BCHA Domestic Abuse
- Safe Empowerment
- It Does Matter.
A private room will be available on each campus should you wish to speak to someone in confidence.
Each organisation offers specialist support relating to sexual violence, domestic abuse, health, and wellbeing, and will be available to talk through the help they provide and how students can access it.
BU support and reporting options
In addition to external services, BU offers a range of support for students who have experienced harassment, sexual misconduct, or sexual violence.
You can access confidential advice, wellbeing support, and information about reporting options by visiting our website. Support is available whether an incident has happened recently or in the past, and students can choose how and when they seek help.
Mandatory harassment training
Students are also reminded to complete BU’s mandatory harassment and sexual misconduct training. The training is designed to help students understand consent, recognise unacceptable behaviour, and know how to get help or report concerns.
Completing the training plays an important role in creating a safe, respectful community for everyone. The training can be accessed via Brightspace.
