Bournemouth University has set out its ambitions for the next 10 years with the publication of its new strategic plan, BU2035.
The plan describes what the university wants to achieve over the next decade, including to equip students with the skills they will need in their future places of work, to carry out research that makes a difference for society, and to support communities and industry in the local area. It also seeks to build new partnerships with colleges in the UK and universities overseas, to expand the range of learning opportunities available.
The plan is based around 5 key areas of focus, referred to as pillars:
- Learning for a digital world: giving students the skills, support and opportunities they need for their career and life and offering an education that is digitally enhanced and relevant to industries.
- Research and innovation: Strengthening the quality of its research to address the global and regional challenges that matter to business and communities. Collaborating with businesses to improve products, services and drive innovation.
- People and Culture: Building a confident and future ready workforce where everyone feels they belong, is supported to grow and can make a difference to everything the university does for its students and society.
- Place and Partnerships: Championing Bournemouth and the South Coast as a place for innovation, skills and growth. Working in partnerships to strengthen communities, support regional and global prosperity, and create opportunities in the region for students.
- Financial Sustainability: Securing long-term financial sustainability to enable growth, investment and innovation – providing the foundation for everything the university does.
Launching the strategy, Professor Alison Honour, CEO and Vice-Chancellor of BU said, “Our plan is an ambitious one that will take Bournemouth to the world and bring the world to Bournemouth. With so much change on the horizon, what remains central to our vision is that where we are still matters.
“We are committed to supporting prosperity by working with civic and industry partners to create jobs, attract investment and to build a culture of innovation that meets the needs of our coastal communities. For our students, this means real-world experience, entrepreneurial opportunities and pathways into careers that shape the future and make a meaningful difference in society.”
The strategy was publicly announced at a launch event featuring local businesses and partner organisations, as well as Jessica Toale MP.
