Bournemouth University Vice-Chancellor Professor Alison Honour has joined the Board of the Arab European Leadership Network in Higher Education (ARELEN).
ARELEN serves as a network to grow and develop partnerships between universities in the Arab region and across Europe, supporting the advancement of university education, developing future skills, and expanding mobility. The strategic group, operating through the Association of Arab Universities, encourages collaboration and sharing of best practice across like-minded institution.
Professor Honour was officially asked to join the ARELEN Board during their Annual Meeting, which was held at Bournemouth University.
Speaking about Professor Honour’s appointment, Professor Amr Ezzat Salama, President of ARELEN and Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, said, “At a time when international cooperation in higher education has never been more important, we are delighted to welcome Professor Alison Honour to the Arab European Leadership Network in Higher Education (ARELEN) Board. Her distinguished leadership and commitment to academic excellence will strengthen our collective capacity to foster innovation, develop future leaders, and advance meaningful partnerships across regions.

Professor Honour has worked and lived in 35 countries, as has held leadership positions at five post-92 UK universities, and will bring this experience to the leadership role.
On her appointment to the Governance and Advisory Board, Professor Honour said, “I am honoured to join the ARELEN Board alongside distinguished higher education leaders. This is an opportunity to deepen relationships for BU, the UK, and fellow ARELEN members. I look forward to actively engaging in this work and learning from global universities as we strive for excellence in higher education.
“In BU2035, we have committed to taking Bournemouth to the world and bringing the world to Bournemouth, and I believe this position will support our ambition to do just that.”
