This year we are transitioning from BU Harvard referencing style to APA. This change applies to most courses – except for a few agreed exclusions – Law will continue to use OSCOLA, History will continue to use Chicago, and English will continue to use BU Harvard.
APA is similar to BU Havard referencing style, however, has the benefit of being easily integrated into digital systems at BU. A new APA referencing guide has been created and the Academic Skills Hub updated in Brightspace to support the transition. Workshops are available to support you in using APA referencing style and other academic skills.
Whilst we transition to the new referencing style during the 2025/26 academic year, the key principles of referencing - academic integrity, credibility, and consistency - remain the priority, whichever style you use. So, continue to cite your sources and avoid plagiarising other people's work. The BU Harvard Library Guide will remain visible until September 2026.
