Bournemouth University students have won the Undergraduate Journalism Category in the 2026 Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards with their piece Remembering you.
'Remembering You' is a documentary exploring the grief and long-lasting impact for families who lost loved ones during the Covid 19 pandemic.
According to RTS “The jury found this to be a brave and powerful piece featuring raw, confident presenting and a clear, compelling narrative supported by a strong range of voices. Impressive camera work paired with outstanding writing and production to create deeply engaging storytelling. It captivated the jurors from start to finish, hitting the right tone throughout.”
A prestigious competition spanning the UK and Ireland, the RTS student awards are supported by Channel 4’s 4Skills programme and aim to aim to highlight the talent, potential and enthusiasm of students, as well as celebrate the exemplary work they create.
“Winning the award, was one of the best moments in my career yet,” said Libby Marchant a media production student who worked as Director, Producer and Co-Editor. “I felt an immense amount of gratitude and proudness that the message behind the documentary was recognised to honour those we lost throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a feeling I'll never forget and I cannot thank my crew and contributors more for their support, hard work and braveness. This award is dedicated to my grandads who I know are there guiding me each day.”
Libby produced the documentary with fellow BU students Katie Green, Harry Strubel, Jacob Rosenberg, Cody Osei, Harry Dyke, Ben Jones and Blake Hemmings.
Following her studies at BU, Libby has secured employment in the TV industry as a production secretary and a runner. Some of the productions she has worked on include:
- Saturday Night Live UK with Universal Television Alternative Studio on Sky
- Squid Game: The Challenge with Studio Lambert on Netflix
- 99 To Beat US with BiggerStage on Fox
- Would You Rather: Decide To Survive with BoldPrint Studios on Amazon Prime.
“BU and BU kit desk provided amazing support throughout graduation season, giving us access to 24 hour editing suites and professional equipment to enhance our projects,” said Libby. “I gained a great understanding of the media industry during my time on the course, and it was fantastic to work with a team of people that all had their own speciality that ranged from directing, producing, editing, camera and sound to come together and create something we were very proud of. “
Jacob Rosenburg, another media production student who worked as production manager of the project added “Winning the RTS Award was a fantastic feeling, I know just how hard the entire crew worked on this documentary, and they could not have deserved it more.”
Since graduation, Jacob has worked in unscripted TV programmes such as Britain’s got Talent, Squid Games: The Challenge and Celebrity Ex on the Beach.
BU is regarded as one of the leading media production schools in the country, being the largest centre for professional media in UK Higher Education, at the forefront of sustainable media practice, as well as fostering a culture of inclusivity and openness.
BU is also one of the very few full UK members of CILECT, a global network of the world’s top film and television schools.
“It is the first time a BA Media Production has won an RTS award for journalism so this is an exciting development for us.” said Rebecca Bond, programme leader for BA Media Production. “We have previously been recognised in the factual, saving the planet and animation categories. It is testament to the excellence of the teaching team, the range of production opportunities we can offer students and the top class media facilities we have at Bournemouth University. In her acceptance speech at the ceremony in London, Libby gave a shout out to lecturers Carolina Machado Oliveira, Tom Stone and myself for supporting and encouraging her in her studies.”
