The Midwifery & Health Sciences department supports the development of professionals for midwifery, paramedic science and operating department practice (ODP).
These occupations play a key role in today’s healthcare environment, providing essential care and support for people with a range of needs in diverse and evolving environments.
Staff also participate widely in research and professional practice, both through our research centre in maternal and infant health, and by engaging with a variety of other research centres and activities.
Our Operating Department Practice and Paramedic Science degrees are both approved by the Health & Care Professions Council, with the latter course also endorsed by the College of Paramedics until July 2024. BSc (Hons) Midwifery is accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Council and by the Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative with the Gold Award for achieving the Baby Friendly sustainability standards.
