Claire Hudson-Cooper, BU graduate and Highly commended in the Enriching Society Award category 2023

Taking on this vital role and then almost immediately faced with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and its after-effects, Claire’s expertise has been crucial in ensuring children and their families continue to receive the highest quality practical, emotional and clinical support during unimaginably difficult and traumatic times. This makes an enormous difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our region.

Claire leads an expert team supporting hundreds of families across Dorset and Wiltshire. She is a key member of the senior management team of an organisation which has been widely recognised as one of the leading charities in the country, recently being ranked the second-best charity to work for in the UK by Best Companies, and the highest ranked healthcare charity. The care provided by Claire and her team is also recognised as being of the highest standard, with Julia's House recently maintaining its ‘Outstanding’ rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Claire said, “It’s a privilege working at Julia’s House Children’s Hospice; the care we provide being recognised as enriching society is an absolute honour. To receive this award in the same year as celebrating Julia's House 20th year anniversary is wonderful.”

“I loved my time at BU; it was the start of an interesting and rewarding career for which I’m very grateful. BU offered me so much variety both clinically and academically. I was lucky enough to meet some inspiring lecturers and ward sisters as a student who have influenced my practice as a nurse. I would advise all the future nurses studying at BU to enjoy your placements and explore any opportunities available to you.”
