A team of Bournemouth University (BU) students have won silver at the final round of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s national student competition, The Pitch. The competition aims to recognise and reward the marketing talent of the future.
The BU team, B2SEA, consisted of three second year students Siobhan Glover (BSc Marketing), Ettie Greenwood and Joshua Rhodes (both BA Marketing Communications). Melanie Gray, Graham Goode and Shenel McLawrence from the Faculty of Media and Communications have supported the team during the competition.
Melanie Gray, Senior Lecturer in Marketing, said, “We are all very proud of this student success! It is a real example of students working together across different degrees. This year the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) received the highest level of entries for this competition so it makes it even more amazing that our team have reached the final!”
At the final on March 9, the teams pitched a marketing communications campaign for StudentUniverse to an audience of industry leaders. The winners received £3000 prize money and a chance to win ‘Marketers of the Future’ at the CIM’s Marketing Excellence Awards. As silver award winners, B2SEA took home £1,500 in prize money and a year's complimentary membership to the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Participating in this competition is an example of BU’s long standing relationship with the CIM, the professional body for the marketing industry.
For the last 11 years, final year Marketing Communications students and CIM South West have organised the Mike Warne lecture, the only student-run event in the CIM events programme. The lecture features high profile speakers discussing the latest developments in marketing communications to an audience of practitioners and students. The most recent Mike Warne event took place on March 1 2017 and focused on immersive technology and the future of marketing.
We'd like to congratulate the BU team on their success this year!
