Talbot Campus boasts a number of facilities that are accessible to all BU students, whether you are living in Lansdowne, at home or in private accommodation.
These facilities can be easily accessed from all over town by making use of the unibus services that run all year round. The U1 is a university circular service that runs every 5-10 minutes during term time between the Lansdowne and Talbot campuses. The service makes a complete route in only 11 minutes, making it a fast and convenient method of travel.
AskBU is your one-stop-shop for student enquiries – our friendly advisers can help you with information, advice and guidance throughout your studies at BU - find them at The Base in Poole House.
Talbot Campus is home to SportBU, which is equipped with a modern gym, full-sized sports hall and Astro pitch. Memberships and prices are discounted for BU students, making it an ideal place to stay fit and healthy while you study.
Just next door is the Student Centre which houses SUBU, your Student Union's support services, including SUBU Advice, and bookable meeting spaces, as well as places to eat and BU’s student press organisation: Nerve Media.
A little further down the campus is Talbot House where you can find the Medical Centre, which is open every day during term time to assist you with any health concerns you may have during your time here. Upstairs from the Medical Centre is Student Wellbeing, which is a confidential service run in partnership with the NHS, and available to all students who are experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood.
The building also has music facilities, including several sound-proof practice rooms which are free for students to use, each one containing a piano and a music stand. There is also a band practice room that includes a drum kit, but this must be booked in advance for a small fee (£11 for a two-hour timeslot). You can also join our University Music choirs, orchestra and big band or even take some lessons.
We also have BU’s Faith & Reflection service in Talbot House. The centre is open 8am-9pm, Monday to Friday during term time and includes an Islamic Prayer Room, Kosher kitchen, a quiet space and a bookable meeting room. Plus lots of social events and activities which you can get involved with throughout the year.
Talbot Woods Nursery is also located in the building, providing quality childcare to babies and toddlers throughout the year. There is a charge for this service.
Finally, students seeking advice on job applications and careers guidance can drop by the Careers Centre just in front of The Sir Michael Cobham Library, where our friendly and experienced advisers are happy to help.
All over the campus you can find art exhibitions and collections to enhance our environment. If you're feeling creative come along to one of our regular craft workshops. There are even four bookable art spaces around campus, contact Art at BU to find out more.
As you can see, there are a large number of services on Talbot Campus to enhance your university experience, so make sure you’re getting the most out of all it has to offer.
