From Wednesday 1 January 2025, staff in our Student Wellbeing Service will be employed directly by BU, having previously been employed by the NHS. This change is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing student support services and ensuring the wellbeing of every student on campus.
To support a smooth transition, the Student Wellbeing Service will have an extended closure over the winter break, reopening as a BU provided service on Monday 3 February 2025. The service will also not be taking any new referrals between Thursday 19 December 2024 and Monday 3 February 2025.
For any student who has recently registered with the service and been allocated support, this will continue as agreed and you will be contacted by a member of the team in the New Year.
To support you during the transition period, between Monday 20 January and Monday 3 February 2025, an extended drop in will be held in The Hub on the ground floor of Poole House, Talbot Campus every day between 12pm and 2pm.
Support during the extended winter closure
All students can access a free 24/7 confidential phoneline providing emotional or practical support from a trained and BACP (British Association of Counselling Practitioners) accredited counsellor, 365 days a year through the Student Assistance Programme. Support is available in over 200 languages and if English isn't your preferred language, just let the helpline know and the advisor will do the rest.
To contact them, please call 0800 028 3766 to speak to an experienced advisor who will offer support and guidance in a friendly, non-judgemental manner. The counsellors on the helpline will triage and provide early interventions. You can take advantage of structured counselling or use the helpline to work through your current situation.
The University Retreat on Talbot Campus will re-open as usual from 6 January 2025. You can access the service once they reopen between 2 - 9pm, Monday – Saturday.
Please visit our BU webpage for further information about support during the winter break and to check what’s open on campus between Tuesday 24 December and Monday 6 January.
