Did you know that BU is a ‘Fairtrade University’? To help raise awareness we are celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from Monday 22 September to Sunday 5 October.
This year, we are encouraging all BU students and staff to ‘Brew It Fair’ by exploring the impacts of your favourite hot beverages. Whether you’re a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate drinker, you have the power to make choices that make a real difference.
How can I ‘Brew It Fair’ at BU?
- Try Chartwells’ Fairtrade Banana Bread. This will be available to tease your taste buds in Fusion Café at Talbot Campus and the Bournemouth Gateway Building Café at Lansdowne Campus from 23 September until sold out
- Use Fairtrade products as prizes for students and colleagues. Are you running an activity that involves giving out prizes? Consider using Fairtrade chocolate samples. You can also purchase Fairtrade hampers from Chartwells, which include a variety of Fairtrade products. If you are interested in purchasing one, please email [email protected]
- Spread the word. Capture a snap of your Fairtrade beverage and post it on social media. Remember to tag @Sustainable_BU and @bournemouthunifood and use the hashtag #BrewItFair and #FairtradeFortnight
- Complete the BU Fairtrade survey. Tell us how we can better support Fairtrade at BU by completing this quick, three question survey
- Join the BU Fairtrade Steering Group. Help us shape BU’s Fairtrade strategy and contribute to the Fairtrade movement, please email [email protected]
- Stock Fairtrade coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in your staff offices. Use the Fairtrade Buying Guide 2025 to search for Fairtrade brands
- Support the Fairtrade Foundations Campaign. Sign this petition to show your support to changing the lives of the people behind the tea we drink.
More about Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a global movement that aims to achieve fairer prices and better working conditions for farmers in developing countries. Fairtrade Fortnight is a national celebration of this movement, where businesses, universities, and individuals come together to raise awareness and take action for Fairtrade. BU and SUBU have been championing this movement for many years through our catering outlets, procurement practices, engagement activities, and embedding Fairtrade into the curriculum. Find out more about BU and SUBU’s commitment to Fairtrade by reading our Fairtrade Policy.
