We want to hear from you – your feedback matters

We’re here to make your time at BU as satisfying and successful as possible. To do this, we need to hear from you about what is working really well and anything we could be doing better.

Student feedback about your studies or research helps us to make meaningful changes to learning, teaching, and student life in lots of ways, including to do more of what you love. 

There are many ways to share your feedback with us: 

  • Chat to the Student Rep for your programme. Student Reps are elected by students and work in partnership with the university to make the student experience better for everyone. They help to co-ordinate the student feedback from your academic programme, school and faculty. There are also Postgraduate Research Reps to represent the view of postgraduate research students. You can find out who your rep in in Brightspace or via the SUBU website 
  • Talk directly to the staff on your course or in the relevant team 
  • Complete the unit feedback survey which will ask about the teaching and learning experience on each unit you are taking 
  • Take part in any the national surveys, such as the National Student Survey for final year undergraduates, the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey for Master’s students and the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey for PhD students 
  • Get involved in SUBU’s Speak Week, which is happening next week 
  • Look out for other opportunities for your opinions to contribute to real change at BU and experience how we value student feedback across the university. A few of these opportunities are mentioned below. 

The Inclusive Curriculum Evaluation project is working to improve the inclusivity of what we teach on our programmes and how that is experienced by students of different ethnicities and backgrounds. Across the university sector, there are differences in outcomes between students from different ethnic backgrounds. At BU, we know these differences are not about ability, but about ensuring every student feels seen, supported and represented in their learning. Through our Inclusive Curriculum Evaluation project, students are paid to review unit content and delivery, working in partnership with academic staff. Together, they identify ways to make our teaching more inclusive, creating a learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 

If you are interested in helping us make our curriculum as inclusive as possible, apply now to join the project team. The closing date for applications is Sunday 23 November. 

There are also student members on the panels which support the programme approval and review process. These formally approve and review our current and new courses to make sure they provide students with the knowledge and skills they need. 

We’ll shortly be looking for students to join our student communications panel. Established last year, panel members help us to deliver student messages and campaigns in the most effective way. Last year, the panel provided insights and guidance to support improvements to our regular student updates and channels, and how we talk about equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Look out for how to apply for this opportunity soon. 

Students have also been part of workshops for projects including the development of our new process for directing students’ questions coming into AskBU to the correct team. We also held a focus group to get student input into our new university strategy, BU2035, which we’ll be launching shortly. 

Real change happens when students and staff work together. That’s why students are part of the University Board, its subcommittee on Student Experience and Quality Standards, and many other committees across BU. Students and your Students’ Union are there to ensure student voice is not only heard, but that students are part of the decisions that shape BU now and into the future. 

There are lots of ways you can share your experiences and feedback with us. Whichever way you choose, thank you for taking the time to do so. We value and listen to your feedback, and it leads to genuine change at BU for our current and future students.
