A TV crew from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing programme made a surprise visit to students studying TV Production and Sport at Bournemouth University’s (BU) Talbot Campus on Tuesday 9th September to film a segment for the show’s finale episode on Saturday night.
The final episode of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing which was broadcast on Saturday evening featured several interviews with students studying at Bournemouth University as part of a segment that asks members of the public to recount their favourite moments of the series.
Two students from BU’s cheerleading team, who are avid fans of the show, Liv Teague, studying for a BSc (Hons) in Medical Science and Eve Kimberley BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy spoke to the camera. Eve said: “The crew asked me about my favourite part of the show which was Amber and Nikita’s Paso Doble, I love watching the Paso Doble and this one was really good.” Liv said: ”Ellie and Vito’s Salsa to The Spice Girls, was my favourite dance of the series, and I know how much she loves Baby Spice.”
As part of the visit, the Director and Assistant from the show were invited to the Poole Gateway Building to meet with TV Production students who were also interviewed about the show and got the opportunity to ask the crew questions about working in the TV industry.
Annie East, Principal Academic in Media Production who helped to organise the surprise visit said: " It was fantastic to welcome the Strictly Come Dancing team and give our students the chance to connect with industry professionals. These conversations highlighted the opportunities behind the camera in production management where there is currently a high demand for people with an organisational flair to manage the creative teams, and to carry out our old favourite: ‘the risk assessment’! At BU we are committed to bridging the gap between education and industry to ensure our graduates have the agility and confidence to explore entry level opportunities.”
