February marks LGBTQ+ History Month, a month‑long annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and non‑binary (LGBTQ+) history. It is an opportunity to uncover previously untold stories, recognise LGBTQ+ contributions across society, and reflect on how inclusion strengthens our community.
As a Stonewall member, we're committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students and staff.
2026 theme: Science and innovation
The 2026 theme focuses on science and innovation, highlighting the role LGBTQ+ people have played in shaping technology, healthcare and responses to global challenges such as climate change and clean energy.
True innovation happens when every voice is heard. Creating inclusive workplaces helps strengthen teams, improve performance and build long-term success.

Rainbow Office Hours
To mark LGBTQ+ History Month, and to provide a safe space where any student can come along and talk to an LGBTQ+ member of staff, we are running some ‘Rainbow Office Hours’ throughout the month.
These are open to all students, whether or not you identify as LGBTQ+ yourself. They are drop-in sessions, so no need to book in advance. Simply pop along on the day or log in online for the virtual sessions and have a chat. All conversations will be held in the strictest of confidence. Find out when the Rainbow Office Hours are taking place.
By taking part in this important month, you can help make BU a place where everyone feels valued, respected and supported.
