We are delighted to once again be taking part in the national Vitae Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition this year. 3MT® is an internationally recognised research communication challenge that invites doctoral researchers to present their thesis in just three minutes, communicating its originality and impact to a non-specialist audience.
What is the format this year?
For this year’s competition, the first round will take place via pre-recorded presentations submitted online. The call for entries will open on Monday 2 March and close on Monday 20 April.
Finalists will then be invited to take part in the in-person final round. This is currently anticipated to take place on Wednesday 10 June, although this date is subject to confirmation.
How can I apply?
You must apply by completing this online form by 9am on Monday 20 April 2026. Please read the international 3MT® rules before applying.
Am I eligible to apply?
Active PhD and Professional Doctorate Research candidates who have successfully passed their Probationary Review;
If you are a part time researcher, or work remotely, a pre-recorded video will be accepted in line with the 3MT® rules, if you’re unable to attend in person.
MRes/MPhil students, students on interruption and graduates are not eligible to enter the 3MT® competition.
