The Retreat

The Retreat provides a safe and welcoming environment for people who have self-identified their crisis and want to access support.

Key information

Currently The Retreat is not open for physical drop-in services but online support sessions are available daily between 5pm-11pm. You can self-refer via their website.

If you require urgent mental health support, please call the Connections 24-hour phone line (0300 123 5440) to be signposted to the right service for the support you need.

The Retreat is a support service run by Dorset Healthcare, offering a safe and welcoming space for people who have self-identified their crisis and want to access support. It is open to anyone who is 18 years and over that lives in Dorset.

The Retreat is for individuals who feel that they are in crisis, are pre-empting a crisis or are seeking support. It is staffed by both peer specialists and mental health professionals who will not offer medication or formal therapy but will support and promote self-management. There is also capacity for mental health professionals working in The Retreat to escalate to further clinical support if required.

The Retreat is open daily 4:30pm to midnight at two locations in Dorset: Hahnemann House in Bournemouth and Maiden Castle Road in Dorchester. There’s no need to make an appointment or phone ahead, you can just turn up. For more details view the information below or visit The Retreat website.
