Our instrumental ensembles offer a great opportunity for experienced musicians through weekly rehearsals and regular concert performances.
Each year, we form a range of instrumental ensembles tailored to the interests of our students. These may include orchestras, bands and a range of chamber music, jazz and popular music groups. String Ensemble
Our String Ensemble rehearses weekly and performs regularly, both on campus and in some wonderful external venues such as Christchurch Priory and Romsey Abbey. Although there are no formal auditions, you will need to have reached a standard roughly equivalent to grade 6.
Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 6pm to 8pm, starting from Tuesday 30 September 2025.
Venue: Student Hall, Talbot House, Talbot Campus. Ample free, floodlit parking directly outside the rehearsal venue.

University Music Concert Band
Our Concert Band welcomes all wind and brass players including saxophonists. Percussionists and bass players are also very welcome. We rehearse weekly and give regular performances both on campus and further afield. Although there are no formal auditions you will ideally have reached a standard roughly equivalent to grade 5.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7pm to 9pm, starting from Wednesday 1 October 2025.
