Students from BU, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and British University Vietnam (BUV) have been invited to showcase their work by creating a social media post (or short series of posts) that highlights their research and inspires others to act.
Anyone applying to the Sunrise Sustainability Competition will receive a Student Sustainability Champion Award and could be in with a chance of winning a prize. It could also help you:
- Share your sustainability research and ideas
- Build your LinkedIn or social media profile
- Help turn academic work into real-world action
- Join an international network of students who care about sustainability
- Receive a BU-USM Sustainability Champion Award.
The best entries will be:
- Showcased on our SUNRISE padlet
- Promoted through BU and USM social media
- In with a chance of winning a prize such as vouchers to donate to a charity of your choice; mentoring sessions with a sustainability expert and/or business specialist within the university’s business network and other sustainable goodies.
How to enter
You will need to:
1. Create social media content about your sustainability-related dissertation/project. The post should cover:
- The sustainability issue or SDG/s (Sustainable Development Goals) your project focuses on
- A short summary of the project or research
- The key findings of the project
- Any practical actions that came from the work
- A call to action or message to engage others.
2. Post the content (video/ reel/ image & text/ infographic) on a social media platform of your choice (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook.) You can submit a single post or a series of up to five posts; they must be clearly linked (with their own unique hashtag).
3. Make sure the post is publicly visible and includes the hashtags #SUNRISEsustainability, #SUNRISEchallenge, #MySUNRISEimpact
4. Submit a link to the post via the SUNRISE sustainability competition form by Monday 26 May 2025.
5. If you have more than one project you want to showcase, please feel free to add a second entry through via the SUNRISE sustainability competition form.
Judging
Top entries will be selected based on highest overall score using the following criteria:
- Clarity and communication
- Content relevance
- Creativity and presentation
- Impact and engagement potential
- Personal reflection and commitment
- Engagement with the post – likes/comments/shares
- Competition categories:
- Best overall post
- Most creative format
- Strongest call to action
- Best LinkedIn post
- Most engaging.
Timeline
- Competition launch: Thursday 1 May 2025
- Deadline to post and submit: Monday 26 May 2025
- Winners announced and showcased live: Monday 30 June – Friday 4 July 2025.
