Whether you're still working hard on your final units or you're approaching the end of term, now is a good time to start getting organised for the next academic year. From key term dates to re-registration, here’s everything you need to know to feel prepared and ready for September.
Know your key dates
It’s worth familiarising yourself with term dates for the next academic year so you can plan ahead for teaching, assessments and holidays. You can find full details, including start and end dates for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, on the BU website.
Stay up to date
We’ll continue to send your fortnightly student newsletter via Brightspace until 1 July. After this, the BU website will be the main place to check for updates over the summer. Our newsletters will return in September. Make sure you keep an eye on the BU website for the latest updates and important information.
Re-register for your course
If you’re continuing your studies next year, we’ll contact you over the summer with instructions to re-register at BU – an important step you must complete each year of your degree.
As part of re-registration, you’ll need to review any updates to the Student Agreement and confirm your details on MyHub are up to date. While it may not be the most exciting read, it’s important to understand the agreement before the new academic year begins.
Re-registration invitations are expected from 20 August 2026, subject to you receiving your results and successfully completing your current level of study. If you’re undertaking reassessments, your invitation will be sent after the reassessment period and exam boards have concluded.
Reapply for any student finance
Don’t forget to reapply for student finance for the next academic year. Applications for 2026/27 are now open, and we recommend applying as early as possible, as it can take up to six weeks to process. There is no guarantee your funding will be in place by the start of your studies, so it’s a good idea to have some money in your bank account for your first few weeks.
We’re here for you over summer
If you’re staying in Bournemouth over the summer, you’re not alone. Many students choose to remain local, and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy everything the area has to offer, from sunny beaches to community events.
Most of our core support services remain open throughout the summer, so help is always available if you need it. You can find details about the full range of support services on the BU website.
