The BU Skills Development Programme is delivered by CareersBU. It is free and open to all current BU students.
Skills development alongside your studies is essential in preparation for today's world of work and we are here to help you.
While your course will give you a wealth of specialised knowledge and skills, employers increasingly expect students to be confident in articulating the ‘softer’ skills that you learn throughout your university journey and how you can apply them to a job that you choose to apply for.
The Skills Development Programme provides a structured approach to your career development with a set of skills masterclasses delivered by inspiring industry speakers, real-life challenges and exposure to a multitude of extracurricular campus activities and digital resources via Linkedin Learning and MyCareerHub.
By utilising the resources and attending the workshops on the Skills Development Programme you will be enhancing your CV and developing your confidence in articulating your skills development to future employers.

As a BU student you can access Your Skills Development Area on Brightspace alongside your course.
This area acts as an entry point into our programme and is full of self-led skills development content that you can work through at your own pace. It puts you as the student in full control of your learning enabling you to tailor the content you want to study alongside your studies.
The skills displayed in this area are grouped into nine different groups of skills that according to our research are the most in demand soft skills required in today’s labour market.
It’s so simple to use. Take a look at our short video (coming soon) which shows you how you can use this area alongside your studies
