I've lost/forgotten my mobile device and cannot access MFA
If you have lost/forgotten your mobile device and cannot access your usual MFA method (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator or SMS codes), there are a few temporary solutions available to access your account depending on your role (student or staff).
How do I register for the Microsoft Authenticator app?
Simply visit Myaccount.microsoft.com click ‘Security Info’ then select ‘Add sign-in method’ - choose ‘Authenticator app’ and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need your smartphone and a personal email address (not your BU one). Use this instruction sheet to help with the initial set-up.
How do I install Microsoft Office 365 on to my personal computer?
• Head to office.com and log in with your BU username and password
• Click Install Office near the top right-hand corner
• Follow the on-screen instructions until Office is installed. Once downloaded, you can run Office on up to five computers (PC or Mac).
How do I access Brightspace, myHub and my BU email?
The quickest way to do this is to visit the Log-in services page on the BU website.
How do I connect to the BU Wi-Fi wireless network?
Network: BU Wi-Fi Username/Password: Your BU username and password
Most devices will detect the Wi-Fi settings automatically. If you need to enter details manually, please refer to the instructions below:
Mac Devices
Go to Settings and select BU-WiFi
Enter your BU username and password
The first time you connect, you will be asked to accept the BU Wi-Fi certificate.
You may also be prompted for your Apple ID credentials (this is different to your BU login details if you are using a personal device).
Android Devices
Go to Settings and select BU Wi-Fi
Enter the following settings:
EAP Method: PEAP
Phase-2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
CA certificate: Use system certificates
Domian: bu-wifi.bournemouth.ac.uk
Identify/Username: Your BU username (do not include staff\or student
Anonymous identity: Any alphanumeric text
Password: Your BU password
Click Connect.
Non-BU Devices (Guest)
Select _The Cloud from the list of available networks Eduroam allows users from other participating higher education institutions to access the internet seamlessly at BU. Use your educational institutions login credentials.

How do I print when I'm on campus using either a BU computer or a personal device?
At BU we have a service called ‘Follow Me Printing’. This means you can print from anywhere on campus to any printer using your BU student ID card. You can also print from your personal device by simply emailing your printing to [email protected]. Find out more about printing your work.
What is the best way to store my work?
Each student has a personal OneDrive as well as a personal file space called the H drive (student home drive). We recommend you save your work to your OneDrive as is this available from anywhere, you can also save to your H drive when you are using university machines.
As a Bournemouth University student, you receive one terabyte (1TB) of free storage with Office 365 on OneDrive. You can set OneDrive to sync up with your laptop/desktop. All summative 'written' assignments are required to be submitted via your Brightspace unit, using the 'Assignment submission' link and will be marked using the Turnitin platform.
