You can protect your login details and passwords with these helpful tips.

Resetting your password

Regularly changing your BU password is one of the best ways to keep your private information safe.

Take the pain out of resetting your password by using the Password Reset Tool. There are two simple steps to using this. Firstly, register with BU's password reset tool once registered you can reset your password using the 'forgotten password' option.

Choosing a secure password

Longer passwords are stronger passwords. Use three unrelated but easy to remember words plus numbers and special characters. E.g. "ParisLego3Gold£" instead of "Winter2018"

Remember not to use the same password for every account. If your BU password is easy to guess then use the Password Reset Tool above to change it. For more advice on what makes a good password check out our guide to creating strong passwords that are easy to remember

Managing multiple passwords

Remembering more than ten passwords is difficult, try using a password manager to help protect your passwords. Free apps such as KeePass, Dashlane, or LastPass can help you to create and manage complex passwords.

Lockout issues/updating passwords on personal devices

If your account keeps locking out, take a look at this troubleshooting guide. This guide also explains how to update passwords on personal devices, or on BU laptops/desktops.

Keep your passwords safe

Do:

  • change passwords regularly
  • store safely

Don’t:

  • share your password
  • send it in an email
  • write it on a post-it
  • store on unprotected storage
  • enter on an unsecured website

If your BU password isn’t protected, register with BU's password reset tool once registered you can reset your password using the 'forgotten password' option.  You can then store your password in a protected environment.
