Faculty of Health & Social Sciences

Faculty of Health & Social Sciences research

We are involved in world-leading research projects and work hard to ensure that our research involves patients, practitioners and research users, so that we are responding to issues at the forefront of health and social care practice. Our research influences policy and professional practice at a local, national and international level.

Our staff are active across a variety of research themes and work with patients and practitioners locally and globally to contribute their expertise to resolve key challenges in health and social care.

Within BU, we contribute to three research institutes and nine research centres, all of which involve collaboration with experts from complementary fields.

As well as the work our academics are involved with, we have a number of postgraduate researchers within the faculty who contribute to our exciting and thriving research culture.

Research opportunities

Each year, we offer several fully-funded doctoral studentships to support postgraduate researchers. Typically, these are associated with specific projects or areas of research the faculty is involved with. You can find out about current opportunities for funded PhD studentships on our postgraduate research pages.

You can also undertake a Doctor of Professional Practice with us, which has been designed specifically with health and social care professionals in mind.
