How to make a data protection complaint to BU
If you have a concern about how Bournemouth University has used your personal data, you have the right to make a data protection complaint directly to us. We are committed to reviewing and addressing your concerns promptly and fairly.
To make a complaint, please contact our Data Protection Officer by email at [email protected]. Please include the following information where possible:
• What happened and when
• Whether you have already raised the matter with us, and if so with whom
• How the matter has affected you
• What outcome would resolve your concern
We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 30 calendar days. We aim to provide you with the outcome of our investigation as soon as possible and ordinarily within 30 calendar days, though complex matters may take longer. We will keep you informed of progress.
Please note that we may exercise our discretion not to accept complaints about matters that occurred more than three months ago, or complaints that are manifestly unfounded, vexatious, or a repetition of issues already addressed.
If you remain dissatisfied with our response, you have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Information about how to do this can be found at www.ico.org.uk. Please note that the ICO will generally expect you to have raised your concern with us first before escalating to them.
