Available to book for the full duration of your studies here at BU.

Corfe House is one of the smaller accommodation blocks. Home to 308 students across eight floors, it offers a great community feel for those who live here. With a mixture of undergraduate and postgraduate students, it’s our only halls of residence based in Poole – slightly further from our campuses, but with excellent transport links and a harbour-side setting that many students value.

It is also the only BU accommodation where you can choose to live past your first year. So if you enjoy it then you don’t have to move for the duration of your studies!

All you need to know about Corfe:

ResLifeBU is an exclusive programme, only available in BU accommodation, designed to help you enjoy your time in student accommodation to the fullest.

Our ResLifeBU Team supports you across three core areas:

  • Social  providing inclusive activities and events to help you meet your fellow students and build a great community
  • Wellbeing  supporting your welfare, health, safety and overall comfort and security
  • Skills  everything you need for your new independent life, from how to keep your flat clean, to cooking an affordable and healthy meal and tips on managing your budget

Each accommodation has a friendly Resident Assistant (RA) who lives on site and is a current BU student. Having experienced it themselves, your RA has an understanding of what it’s like to move to a new home when you start at uni. There is also a Welfare Coordinator who is a current member of BU staff and is available for any wellbeing issues you might have whilst in residence. Supporting these roles we have the three ResLifeBU Coordinators, and the three ResLifeBU Officers all dedicated to helping you have the best time in our accommodation.

£1.25 of your weekly rent goes towards the funding of the programme – but if you make the most of it, you’ll find it’s worth so much more than that.

Types of room

There are three types of the bedroom in Corfe House:

Standard ensuite (undergraduate)  all ensuites are single occupancy and come with a 3/4 sized double bed, study desk, desk chair, storage and your very own ensuite bathroom and shower. Advertised prices are based on weekly rent inclusive of an annual bus pass and your ResLifeBU programme

Location and the surrounding area

Unlike our other halls of residence that are based in the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth, Corfe is situated in Poole. It’s close to the town centre, the park and Poole Quay - offering awesome views of the sea and coastline from rooms on higher floors – and it’s also right next to two major supermarkets. This hall is ideally suited for more mature students and those wanting a quieter environment. This is the only hall which offers the opportunity each year for returning BU students to book for any subsequent year of study.

The building is within a few minutes’ walk of Poole’s train station, and close to a bus stop that connects you to our campuses and the wider local area.

Although it’s a slightly longer bus journey into uni (around 30 minutes, compared to 10 minutes from our Lansdowne halls), the quiet quayside setting and excellent transport links make Corfe an attractive option to many students.

Travelling to and from uni (and beyond)

It’s just a short walk from Corfe to a bus stop where you can catch the U2 bus to reach both our campuses, or the M1 or M2 buses to travel to Bournemouth town centre and our Lansdowne Campus. Your bus pass is included in your rent so you can use these services as much as you need throughout the year, although you can opt out of this if you choose.

There are also night buses running between Bournemouth and Poole on Fridays and Saturdays, making it easy for you to get home after a night out.

And if you like to get around by bike, there’s a secure bike shelter situated right outside the building exit. Parking is not available at Corfe House.

Facilities and shared spaces

The undergraduate cluster flats – where you’ll find the standard and premium en-suite options – each have five or six bedrooms that share an open-plan kitchen and living area. These are equipped with sofas, stools, tables, storage cupboards and all the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need. And, as you’d expect, there’s Wi-Fi available throughout the building.

Corfe House also offers postgraduate flats, which are similar in design and layout to their undergraduate counterparts, but with further storage.

In addition, Corfe has a large, welcoming common room that is available for all residents to make use of. Within this space there’s a pool table and TV with a PlayStation 4. Just off the common room are the card-operated laundry facilities; it’s also where the reception office is.

Services and security

Your weekly rent includes contents insurance. Find out more about the level of cover

Your bedroom and common room has high-speed wifi for work and play.

All of your bills are included in your weekly rent so you have nothing further to pay.

As well as having CCTV in the building and secure access, there is also a Corfe House team member onsite 24 hours a day to provide any help you might need.

The onsite team includes a maintenance operative who will be able to respond and resolve any faults for you in a timely manner.

There is also a ResLifeBU Team who are on hand if you have any wellbeing concerns and they also organise regular social events (see ResLifeBU below)
