BU scholars beat leading UK teams in national Beach Volleyball Tournament

Sport scholar Soner Yashar tells us about his and partner Todor's second place Championship finish at the BUCS Beach Volleyball Championships 2021-22.

“The tournament was a great experience for us, because me and my partner (Todor) never actually had an experience of playing together and also we have never played such high level tournaments.

“With determination and good technique, we managed to beat leading teams such as Durham, Essex, Newcastle and UEL. I am extremely proud of our performance because we had our difficulties during the season, but it can be said that the hard work finally paid off. Especially for people that have not played beach volleyball we proved to the public that sometimes even though you look like an outsider team, with a big will to win and with a constant fight for every point, where you give your maximum, you can perform well and win.

“I was also extremely proud of the fact that this tournament was a great way to finish my four-year journey as a BU student athlete. This is the time to thank all my lecturers and all the people involved in the volleyball programme (players, SportBU staff, volleyball coaches, S&C coaches). It has been a great pleasure for me to represent BU.”
