BU student Josh Furneaux earned his sports scholarship in 2024 and says it has benefited him hugely in many ways.

Josh is the only scholar for tennis at the university which means he has been provided with nutritional support and any aid that he feels necessary.

The talented tennis star said, "Having structure for someone with a schedule like me is crucial if you want to keep up with everyone else.”

“I don’t feel like my life has really changed much since having the scholarship. However, with independent assignments it’s completely fine but I find group projects quite challenging because lots of people don’t understand when I sometimes can’t meet because of my training”.

Josh believes the scholarship has been really beneficial: “My training was intense even before I was awarded the scholarship, so whilst it hasn’t changed much on that level, the university has provided me with a nutritionist and psychologist which has helped massively.”

Josh has continued to progress in his tennis career because of the extra opportunities he’s been offered due to the scholarship and as he continues to thrive under the support he’s been offered, he stays focused on improving both academically and athletically.
