Student ID card collection and international document check

• To identify yourself as a BU student to staff/others
• Library card and printers
• Bus discounts
• Access to secure bike sheds, lockers and showers for cyclists on campus
• Access to certain specialist rooms/buildings (specific courses only)
• SportBU turnstile access (members only)
• ID for use in exams.

When collecting your student ID card, you will be asked for your surname (family name) and to confirm your student ID number (find this at the top of your registration email).

Please also bring some other form of ID with your name on it. We will only ask to see it where necessary, but it will be especially useful to see your surname/family name written down. It doesn’t have to be an ‘official’ ID – a letter or bank card would also suffice. If there is any doubt about whether the person in the picture you submitted online is really you, we will need to undertake further security checks before handing over your student ID card.

To complete your enrolment at your international document check you will need to bring: 

• ​​Your passport (only your passport can be accepted as proof of identity)
• Any previous visas for the UK and all other relevant immigration documents
• Before you come along to your enrolment session, please generate a share code for your right to study (not work or rent) so we can check this as you are enrolled.

Your student ID card will display your full, official, name as long as that doesn’t exceed 40 characters. If your name is longer than that, we cannot display all your middle names for space reasons.

Providing you have completed your online registration and enrolment on MyHub as far as you can, you will receive your student ID card after we have checked your international documents. We will print your card for you after we check the documents.

If we have agreed an exceptional late start for you at BU and you are not able to complete your enrolment at one of these sessions, we will confirm alternative arrangements for completing this step. You must tell us (using this online form) if you think you will not be able to start your course on Monday 26 January and you must not make arrangements to arrive after this date without BU’s prior agreement. Replacement cards are available from AskBU, there may be a charge for this. You will need to complete the Replacement student ID card form and they will cancel the old one to ensure it can’t be used.
