Chesil House is one of the smaller halls of residence, housing just over 200 students on our Lansdowne Campus. It offers easy access to the town centre and beach, and it’s a five-minute walk to the train station. Our free university bus service (U1 and U4) picks up and drops off right outside too.
Chesil has a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate residents, so it’s a reasonably easy-going place to live. It’s also convenient for shopping and socialising – close to a large supermarket, as well as lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. That includes The Old Fire Station – run by our Students’ Union, and one of Bournemouth’s best nightspots and live music venues.
Chesil offers some great communal areas in addition to its ensuite rooms – check out the virtual tour to find out more:
Facilities and services
There are five or six-bed cluster flats for undergraduate and postgraduate students, each with an open-plan, shared kitchen and living area equipped with sofas, stools, tables, storage cupboards and all of the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need. For postgraduate students, there are also studio flats, located in a separate block. These have their own kitchen area, as well as bedroom and living space.
All of the rooms come with a single bed, desk, shelves, wardrobe, chest of drawers and ensuite as standard.
Chesil House has a large common room that is open to all residents. It features comfy seats and a TV, as well as having a separate movie room equipped with a projector, big screen and sofas. There is also a card-operated laundry room that you can access 24 hours a day.
There is someone at reception 24 hours a day, as well as onsite security and the whole building is monitored by CCTV. The staff here do their best to make everyone feel welcome and get involved with the community by hosting events such as pizza and movie nights.
Campus Living Villages (CLV) run Chesil House in partnership with BU, so your contract will be with them rather than the university. CLV also has an online shop where you can buy essential items - such as kitchen equipment and bedding - before you arrive.
