Dorchester House is based in the heart of our Lansdowne Campus. It’s opposite the train station and the university bus service (U1) picks up right outside.
You’re also close to supermarkets and a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as The Old Fire Station – run by our Students’ Union one of Bournemouth’s best live music venues and nightspots.
The majority of Dorchester House’s 590 students are undergraduates, but there are 60 postgraduate studio flats. These studio flats are all self-contained units, with their own kitchen and living space, as well as a bedroom.
The shared flats have between three and seven bedrooms and all have a communal kitchen and living area, complete with comfy seats, a breakfast bar, storage cupboards and all the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need.
All the rooms are ensuite and feature a four-foot bed. All the flats have a desk, shelving, under-bed storage, a wardrobe and heating that you can control yourself.
The difference between a standard and premium ensuite room is in the floor space - premium rooms will be larger than standard rooms.
There’s a large common room that’s open to all residents where you can relax, study with your friends or play pool - the app or card-operated laundry room is just next door. There are also two outdoor courtyards where you can chill out in the warmer weather. There’s a secure bike shelter within the complex as well.
Events are regularly organised for students to create a sense of community within the block. As well as having CCTV in the building, there is a Dorchester House team member onsite 24 hours a day to provide any help you might need.
Your accommodation contract will be with BU but Dorchester House is owned by iQ Student Accommodation, who deliver and manage the operation for the university.
£1 p/wk of your weekly rent contributes towards the running of your ResLifeBU programme. ResLifeBU is designed to help your time in your student accommodation be the best it can be. The ResLifeBU team live on site and are there to help you settle into your new home, be available if you ever need a bit of support or someone to talk to and also help you and your fellow residents foster a sense of community throughout the year. They will not only be organising and running events for you but will also be looking for any ideas you might have to make ResLifeBU even better. Remember, £1 of your rent contributes to the funding of ResLifeBU so we encourage you to get involved and get the most out of it! More details of what ResLifeBU is all about and how you can get involved can be found at our ResLifeBU info page.
