Bailey Point

Opened in September 2019, Bailey Point has all the things you might want for your new home from home. A modern and stylish hall of residence with 550 bedrooms, it is a mixed community of undergraduates and postgraduates, and benefits from great communal spaces – including a free-to-use on-site gym, two commons rooms, a roof terrace and study spaces. It’s located in the heart of the Lansdowne Campus and is just a 10-minute bus ride from Talbot Campus, with buses running regularly from right outside. It’s also close to the main train station, the beach and the nightlife of the town centre.

*Studio flats can differ in size, shape and layout.

All you need to know about Bailey Point:

ResLifeBU

ResLifeBU is an exclusive programme, only available in BU accommodation, designed to help you enjoy your time in student accommodation to the fullest.

Our ResLifeBU Team supports you across three core areas:

  • Social – providing inclusive activities and events to help you meet your fellow students and build a great community
  • Wellbeing – supporting your welfare, health, safety and overall comfort and security
  • Skills – everything you need for your new independent life, from how to keep your flat clean, to cooking an affordable and healthy meal and tips on managing your budget

Each accommodation has a friendly Resident Assistant (RA) who lives on site and is a current BU student. Having experienced it themselves, your RA has an understanding of what it’s like to move to a new home when you start at uni. There is also a Welfare Coordinator who is a current member of BU staff and is available for any wellbeing issues you might have whilst in residence. Supporting these roles we have the three ResLifeBU Coordinators, and the three ResLifeBU Officers all dedicated to helping you have the best time in our accommodation.

£1.25 of your weekly rent goes towards the funding of the programme – but if you make the most of it, you’ll find it’s worth so much more than that.

Location and the surrounding area

Bailey Point is based on our Lansdowne Campus, within easy walking distance of all our academic buildings in Lansdowne, with buses to and from our Talbot campus picking up and dropping off just outside you should never be late for a lecture!

Just a short walk from the town centre and the bars, clubs and restaurants that are popular with students, including The Old Fire Station, which is run by the Students' Union (SUBU) who host regular live music events and club nights, you'll never be short of things to do in your spare time.

It’s also a five-minute walk to Bournemouth train station and the largest supermarket in central Bournemouth, great for your grocery shopping and household essentials.

Finally, you will be just a 10 minute walk from the stunning beach and pier, great for sun bathing and swimming during those warm summer months and even better for a dramatic blowy beach walk in the winter months.

Travelling to and from uni (and beyond)

The U1 and U4 university bus services pick up from right outside and take between 10 and 15 minutes to get to our Talbot Campus. Your annual bus pass is included in your rent so you can use these services as much as you need throughout the year, although you can opt out of this at the point of booking if you choose.

Your annual bus pass also includes unlimited travel on Morebus zone A services, spanning the wider Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area.

If cycling is more your thing then the site has secure bike storage and is just a 10 minute ride to the Talbot Campus, where again there is ample secure storage.

And if you're travelling further afield, the main train and bus station is just minutes away with trains running into London Waterloo taking approx 2hrs.

Facilities and shared spaces

Bailey Point has the most communal space for use by residents than any other of our accommodation, providing you with plenty of options to get out of your flat and mix with others in the building.

If you want to socilaise, game or just chill out infront of a film, there are two common rooms in the building with soft seating for you and your friends.

If you need to get some work done then there is also a study room for personal or group work.

There is also a roof terrace and a FREE onsite gym!

All studios and the communal reas of the ensuite flats come with a flat screen that can be used by residents. Please note, if you use this screen for watching "Live" television, including BBC iPlayer or online live streaming, then you will be required to procure a TV Licence
