The Student Village is a collection of shared student housing located on our Talbot Campus. As well as being within minutes’ walk of the university’s main Talbot Campus facilities, it is also a short bus ride to our Lansdowne Campus and the centre of Bournemouth on the university bus service (U1 and U4).

ResLifeBU is an exclusive programme, only available in BU accommodation, designed to help you enjoy your time in student accommodation to the fullest.
Our ResLifeBU Team supports you across three core areas:
- Social – providing inclusive activities and events to help you meet your fellow students and build a great community
- Wellbeing – supporting your welfare, health, safety and overall comfort and security
- Skills – everything you need for your new independent life, from how to keep your flat clean, to cooking an affordable and healthy meal and tips on managing your budget
Each accommodation has a friendly Resident Assistant (RA) who lives on site and is a current BU student. Having experienced it themselves, your RA has an understanding of what it’s like to move to a new home when you start uni. There is also a Welfare Coordinator who is a current member of BU staff and is available for any wellbeing issues you might have whilst in residence. Supporting these roles we have the three ResLifeBU Coordinators, and the three ResLifeBU Officers all dedicated to helping you have the best time in our accommodation.
£1.25 of your weekly rent goes towards the funding of the programme – but if you make the most of it, you’ll find it’s worth so much more than that.
Types of room
There are four types of accommodation in the Student Village:
Standard (undergraduate) – all rooms are single occupancy and come with a single bed, study desk, desk chair, storage. All rooms are within a shared cluster house of between 3–7 other rooms and have a shared bathroom, with 7-bed properties having 2 shower rooms. Every bedroom has its own washbasin. All flats have fully fitted shared kitchens and dining spaces to eat, relax and socialise.
Value (undergraduate) – the value rooms have the same specification to the standard option. The only difference is that standardly priced rooms are in houses that have been refurbished in recent years.
Studios (reserved for postgraduates) – all studio flats come with a single bed, study desk, desk chair, storage, your very own ensuite bathroom and shower as well as a small kitchenette with everything you require for self-catering.
Bungalow – there are also two two-bedroom bungalows, which are only available to families and can be rented for the full length of your course. These are already booked for September 2020.
Advertised prices are based on weekly rent inclusive of an annual bus pass and your ResLifeBU programme.
Location and the surrounding area
The houses are located on our Talbot Campus, meaning you’re just minutes away from your classes and all of the other facilities, including sports, catering and SUBU's Dylans bar.
If you need to get to the Lansdowne Campus or the centre of Bournemouth, these are easily reached within 10-15 minutes on our university bus services.
Talbot is also a 10 minute walk from Winton, with its high street shops and close proximity it is a popular area for BU students to live in. Talbot is also surrounded by lots of green space, offering an alternative for students who prefer to live outside the town centre.
Travelling to and from uni (and beyond)
There is no parking available at the Student Village. However, the University bus service (U1 and U4) runs regularly from Talbot to our Lansdowne Campus and the town centre, taking approx 10 and 15 minutes. Your bus pass is included in your rent so you can use this service as much as you need throughout the year, although you can opt out of this, if you choose.
The bus pass also includes unlimited travel on Morebus zone A services, spanning the wider Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area.
There’s also a secure bike enclosure in the Student Village.
Facilities and shared spaces
The houses in the Student Village have three, four, five or seven bedrooms and are split over two or three floors. Every house has a communal kitchen and living area, equipped with comfy seats, as well as plenty of storage space, and all the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need. These houses have shared bathrooms, and every room has its own wash basin.
When you want to relax or catch up with friends then there are two common rooms. One is dedicated to postgraduates and the other for undergraduates.
Services and security
There is a coin-operated laundry room, located next to the Student Village Office, where you can find members of staff who are on hand to provide you with advice and assistance should you need it. This office is open Tuesday to Friday and members of the team are available on the Student Village email or telephone on Mondays.
There is a security team available overnight and on weekends, who you can also contact via telephone if required.
Your weekly rent includes contents insurance. Find out more about the level of cover.
Your bedroom and common room has high-speed wifi for work and play.
All of your bills are included in your weekly rent so you have nothing further to pay.
The onsite team includes a BU maintenance team who will be able to respond and resolve any faults for you in a timely manner.
There is also a ResLifeBU Team who are on hand if you have any wellbeing concerns and they also organise regular social events (see ResLifeBU above)

When you’re ready to book a room, you can do so via our Accommodation Portal. Your contract will be with the accommodation provider so be sure to check the terms & conditions before you make a booking.

Management and Code of Standards
The Student Village is operated by BU so we will be your landlord and you will pay your rent to us. Any queries related to your contract or rent will be with your BU Residential Services Team.
