Unilet properties are typically four- to six-bedroom shared houses that are fully furnished that you can rent in the same way you would in a purpose-built hall of residence. Although they are privately owned, they are all managed by BU, allowing us to ensure consistent standards. All of our Unilet properties are within four miles of Talbot Campus and are located in popular student areas, such as Charminster, Winton and Wallisdown. These locations are well-served by our university bus service and there are many cycle routes between our campuses and the centre of Bournemouth.

ResLifeBU is a programme designed to help you enjoy your time in student accommodation to the fullest. It’s included in all of the accommodation managed by or in partnership with BU.
Our ResLifeBU Team supports you across three core areas:
- Social, covering a wide range of inclusive activities and events
- Wellbeing, comprising your welfare, health, safety and overall comfort and security
- Skills – from cooking masterclasses to tips on managing your budget
The team comprises of our ResLife Assistants (RAs) who are current BU students and live on site with an understanding of what it’s like to move to a new home when you start at uni. Our Welfare Coordinator is a current member of BU staff and is available for any wellbeing issues you might have whilst in residence.
£1 of your weekly rent goes towards the funding of the programme – but if you make the most of it, you’ll find it’s worth so much more than that.
Types of bedroom
The number and size of the bedrooms varies from property to property. Each of the bedrooms has either a double or single bed, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk and chair.
Location and the surrounding area
All of our Unilet properties are within four miles of Talbot Campus and are located in popular student areas, such as Charminster, Winton and Wallisdown. These locations are well-served by our university bus service and there are many cycle routes between our campuses and the centre of Bournemouth.
As these properties are located in residential areas, there is often on-road parking, allowing you to bring a car if you’d like to. In addition, Unilet houses are never far from university bus services to and from our Talbot and Lansdowne campuses, and we always make sure that you have the facilities you need in your home.
Travelling to and from uni (and beyond)
Your bus pass is included in your rent so you can use the uni services that run through the areas where Unilet houses are based as much as you need throughout the year, although you can opt out of this if you choose. These will get you to and from our campuses, but the bus pass also includes unlimited travel on morebus zone A services, spanning the wider Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area.
Bournemouth’s main bus and train station is just a short bus ride away. And if you need to bring a car with you, Unilet is the only accommodation option available. Parking may be either off-road or kerb side, although a few houses may have some local parking restrictions.
There are many cycle routes between our campuses and the centre of Bournemouth.
Facilities and shared spaces
As you will have no onsite staff, Unilet properties allow you to lead a more independent life. They all have a shared kitchen and living area where you can mingle with your housemates. Some properties have gardens and on-street residential parking (if you absolutely have to bring your car then Unilet is your only option - always speak with Residential Services in the first instance to check)
All of the living rooms have sofas and the kitchens are all equipped with the essential appliances, including a cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and washing machine. You’ll usually have shared bathroom facilities in these houses.
Services and security
We want to make sure that you feel comfortable and settle into your new home, so our Residential Services team are available to answer any questions you may have or to provide assistance should you need it. We also regularly inspect all of our Unilet properties to ensure they meet our standards.
Houses have passed for both health and safety checks which are conducted by qualified professionals. So long as students follow safety guidelines, then we see no reasons for security problems.
You also get all of the benefits of a fully inclusive rent so your bills, contents insurance and internet are included in your weekly rent.
Management and HMO Accommodation Standards
The Unilet houses are managed by BU's Residential Services Team. BU is therfore your landlord and you pay your rent to us. We are also on-hand if you have any questions or if you need any assistance with your accommodation.

These properties are managed and operated by BU, so your contract will be with the university.
