Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education

Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education (CoPMRE)

The Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education (CoPMRE) was established in June 2007. It represents a home for a medical Visiting Faculty with an interest in innovating delivery of care and developing clinical practice.

CoPMRE is embedded within the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences but works across the university to develop high quality research and education.  Our Visiting Faculty has many national/international links and collaborations.

CoPMRE’s core work is in the broad fields of research and education and our key strength is our close relationship with NHS partners.

Our ambition is to encourage and facilitate collaboration between the NHS and University academics. We work in partnership with the Bournemouth University Clinical Research Unit (BUCRU) which is a model for supporting and conducting high quality health and care research. We have a particular interest in developing digital solutions to health and social care challenges.

The Centre collaborates with a range of organisations to encourage invention, innovation and research including Research Active Dorset and the Wessex Academic Health and Science Network.

Collaboration between NHS Trusts and University has led to the development of an innovative multidisciplinary programme for the training of Foundation Year 2 doctors.  The Professional Skills in Medicine for FY2 Doctors Programme is delivered to around 90 junior doctors across Dorset. It provides a safe place to explore and debate issues that reflect increasing competence and craftsmanship in professional practice. For more information please see our brochure.

.We also have a unique programme, Leading Together Professional Development Programme for Senior Doctors, which brings together newly appointed consultants and GPs from across Dorset together to explore and address some of the challenges faced by doctors working in the modern NHS. The core aim is to provide better integration between primary and secondary care.  More information can be found in the Programme Handbook.

The Centre holds two bi-annual Visiting Faculty Events in the Spring and Autumn.

Our annual symposium takes place in October. Our Sixteenth Conference on the theme of Frailty will be held on 9 October 2019 at the Executive Business Centre. Register for your free place here.
