Since leaving BU, Lucy has embarked on an exciting career in fields that she didn’t even know existed.
As a Project Manager Lucy has worked on the design of submarine assemblies, got hands-on in large-scale manufacturing environments, managed the maintenance of power equipment for the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers and supporting frigates, co-ordinated the production of fibre optics and managed digital intelligence projects.
Alongside her ‘day job’ at BAE Systems, Lucy is fully committed to diversity and inclusivity, with personal highlights including leading the Bristol Women’s Network, becoming a Mental Health First Aider, and working as an active STEM ambassador – including delivering lectures at BU.
Lucy believes that she can trace everything she’s accomplished back to the fundamentals she learned whilst studying at BU. Whether that’s the importance of continuous learning, how to communicate effectively with stakeholders through her senior student ambassador work, networking through her placement year or learning what ‘critical path analysis’ is and when to apply it – all skills that have helped her flourish professionally.
Lucy says: “I think BU taught me a lot more than the modules I covered in the course – I learned key life skills that have enabled a fast career progression I could not have predicted.”
