The information on this page includes useful information to help you plan for your life and studies in the UK.

You should plan to join us in person for the start date of your course, which for most students joining BU is Monday 26 January 2026 (we call that first week “Welcome Week”). Your welcome week will include important course introduction sessions and an international orientation session, timetabled by your faculty.

Your international orientation session will cover a variety of information:

  • Practical things like opening bank accounts, registering with a doctor and public transport
  • British culture, culture shock and how British culture impacts what is expected of you as a BU student
  • Academic and English language support for international students
  • Personal safety and British laws
  • An introduction to the CareersBU team and how they can help you
  • An overview of extra-curricular opportunities to help you make the most out of your time in Bournemouth.

You can also explore a range of events for new international students, which will give you the opportunity to relax, ask questions and meet other students. You need to register online in advance to attend some events, so please check the details carefully. You can find details of events at the bottom of this webpage.

If you were unable to make our pre-departure webinar earlier this summer, please take a look at this presentation (pdf, 3.44mb), which includes all the important information shared at the event.
