Cheerleading

The BU Falcons have been ranked as one of the top University Cheerleading programs in the country, after earning their National & Grand Championship titles in 2022.

The Falcons have five different teams and over 80 athletes with something for everyone! We are a supportive and inclusive team, with socials and fundraisers being run outside of training to ensure team bonding and community.

Due to this success and the rapidly growing demand for cheerleading, we have added a level 1 team, making BU one of the first universities to have level 1, 2 and 3 comp teams. We also have strong links to the local Allstar programme, Bournemouth Elite, providing support to our student coaches as well as access to training facilities and opportunities for members to cross over to an Allstar team.

Outside of training, there is plenty to get involved in to enhance your student experience. Community outreach, volunteering, fundraising, pizza parties, movie nights, and weekly Wednesday night socials are just some of the activities you can look forward to with the Falcons. We provide a supportive team environment to foster incredible friendships and a buddy system between new members, and our returners to look out for newcomers while they settle into the team and university life.

The last two seasons have been the most successful in BU Falcon history

  • Grand Champions: Level 3 National Champions and Grand National Champions (2020 and 2022)
  • National Champions: Level 2 National Champions 2022

Coaching

The Falcons have an 8 member strong coaching team including all-star coaches and cheerleaders and 5 level 1-3 coaches. Our lead competition coaches have had multiple years coaching all-star and university cheerleading. Our student coaching programme also provides an opportunity for those with previous experience to be guided into coaching roles throughout their time at university. All of our coaches receive cheerleading or dance qualifications to ensure the highest level of choreographing and coaching for our athletes.

How can you get involved?

We run taster sessions at the start of each academic year where we welcome everyone to come and give Cheerleading, Pom & Hip Hop a go! More info on this can be found on our Instagram page @bufalcons. We encourage anyone planning on trying out to also come to a taster session as they are a great chance to meet the team and learn the try out material. All events will be in line with SportCheerEngland & Government Covid-19 Guidance.

If you would like to attend try-outs for Falcons 22-23, please check out our Instagram (@bufalcons) for all updates and information! Follow us on Instagram or the most up-to-date information!
